I agreed with Pamela Howard when she said, "In reality , the collaboration between directors and designers is often uneasy." I find this true because sometimes, and often, the director has a set in mind image of how he or she wants the designs and stage to look like. And obviously the designer will have disagreements with that. If I had the chance to be a director or designer in a show I would try my hardest to entwine majority of ideas from both designer and director.
Directors and Designers by Oddey, was a very instresting reading. There was one specific sentence that got my attention and it was this one "the excitement that should be in theatres is found only in baseball parks, arenas, stadiums, and racecourses". I have never taken the time to think how exciting all arenas have been. It is very funny when you think back and remember how certain people acted when they saw opposing teams or fans from those teams in stadiums. What theater is lacking is this excitement of people wanting to attend plays, as a director it must be hard to keep audience hook on theater, but at the same time we rather pay less for a movie, than have patience and watch people perform.
